We oppose the Board of Trustees’ decision to abandon Jesuit High School’s (JHS) all-male tradition and transition to coeducation. This is not a minor operational change. It is a fundamental change to the school’s identity and to the mission that generations of families, alumni, and supporters believed they were sustaining. A decision of this magnitude should not have been made behind closed doors and without meaningful consultation with the community most deeply invested in Jesuit’s future.
Our position is rooted in faith, not division. We respect the dignity and educational needs of young women and support strong Catholic education for every student. Yet we also believe there remains an important and growing need for schools dedicated to the formation of boys and young men. JHS has fulfilled that calling with distinction for more than sixty years.
A Call for Genuine Discernment and Action
We ask the trustees to pause the transition, listen openly to the Jesuit community, and fully consider alternatives that preserve the school’s all-male mission. Jesuit tradition is not an obstacle to its future. It is the foundation on which a stronger future can be built.
